Visiting new build twin rigger/flyshooter Turma Nova at Damen Maaskant Shipyards in Stellendam

Yesterday, at the invitation of Raymon Lubbers of Castor Marine, we received a tour on the twin rigger/flyshooter PD-105 Turma Nova at Damen Maaskant Shipyards in Stellendam. The Turma Nova is part of a series of newly designed fishing trawlers. The innovative concept of this vessel began through the collaboration of Vripack, the Ekofish Group and Maaskant.

The ships set a new standard in the Van der Zwan fleet. For example, they have diesel-electric propulsion (but can also only run on gas oil) and, thanks to the batteries, can run completely emission-free for a certain period of time. In inhabited areas, for example.

A smart energy recovery system – using the braking energy released by the fishing winches, among other things – helps to charge the batteries.

The ship uses a Peplink BR1 router for seamless switching to WiFi, 4G or satellite internet connection and two Poynting OMNI-291 antennas for receiving the 4G/LTE signal.

The ship will be put into service next week and we wish the ship and crew a safe journey.
